MP3: Alibi Tom- Fire from Scrapbook (May 4th, Leon)
Alibi Tom kicks off this week’s Smorgasbord with highly danceable indie rock. Their catchy pop instincts come straight out of Sweden.
MP3: French Kicks- Abandon from Swimming (Out now, iTunes. In stores May 20th via Vagrant)
From one set of hand claps to another… The French Kicks use ‘em to launch into a drifting psych pop version of their signature post-punk sound. Melodic and moody.
MP3: The Coast- Nueva York from Expatriate (Out now, Aporia Records)
These Canadians take a straightforward piano ballad and build on it with shimmering guitars. The balance works to add interest to radio-ready pop melodies without seeming like an afterthought.
MP3: My Morning Jacket- Evil Urges from Evil Urges (June 10th, ATO)
The internet has spoken. After live versions of their new tunes showed up online, the Southern psych rockers have made this track available from their next release. A little electronica mixed in with some ripping, dueling guitars towards the latter half of the song.
MP3: The Instruments- Ode to the Sea from Dark Smaland (May 13th, Orange Twin)
Repetitive experimental folk of the Elephant 6 variety. Hey, there’s even a Jeff Mangum cameo.
And now for this week¹s Smorgasbord Sundae Wafer…
MP3: Speck Mountain- Stockholm from Summer Above (Out now, Burnt Brown Sounds)
Chicago’s Speck Mountain closes us out this week with some gorgeous dream pop. Mazzy Star fans will love these locals who are performing next Tuesday, April 29th at Empty Bottle.

The alibi tom song was broken there for a while, but it’s fixed now.
So if you downloaded fire.mp3 and it didn’t work, try it again and you’ll hear the sweet sound of swedish hand-clapping-indie-rock, rather than stuttering static!
Sorry for the trouble
