In a week that we’ve seen both Pitchfork and Stereogum launch video sites, NDFY keeps it old school with MP3 sweets…
MP3: Aimee Mann- Thirty One Today from @#%&*! Smilers (June 3rd, SuperEgo)
An older and perhaps wiser acquaintance recently reminded us how quickly life can go by– recommending that we do everything that we can now. On a similar note, Grammy-winning artist Aimee Mann returns with an introspective folk rock tune that laments aging. For the record, Ms. Mann is 47.
MP3: I Love Math- Josephine Street from Getting To The Point Is Beside It (May 27th, Glurp Records)
Members of Apples in Stereo and Old 97’s collaborate with expected results. Upbeat, clean pop sounds with an old school country edge.
MP3: The Little Ones- Boracay from Terry Tales & Fallen Gates (Out now, Branches Recording Collective)
The Little Ones have impressed us in the past with their infectious, energetic live shows. We were disappointed when they were dropped from the EMI conglomerate due to downsizing. Thankfully the boys have self-released their own EP while the fate of their next full-length hangs in the balance. A few sweet vocal harmonies scattered amongst bright, guitar driven pop don’t reflect their recent experience.
MP3: Pyramids- Sleds from Pyramids (April 22nd, Hydra Head)
These Jesu labelmates offer up calming waves of ambient guitar sounds. Crawl into a hole, it’s zone out time!
MP3: Tokyo Police Club- Juno from Elephant Shell (April 22nd, Saddle Creek)
We already shared a previous track from their Saddle Creek debut, but couldn’t resist another. Don’t you hate how they always manage to be so catchy in under 3 minutes?
And now for this week’s Smorgasbord Sundae Wafer…
MP3: May Or May Not- Baby’s In LA from Head On Springs (Out now, self released)
Sticking with the 60’s psych rock sounds that have made them a consistent Chicago buzz band, May or May Not have come out with yet another recording. That’s their fourth since 2005. The entire EP is available for free on the band’s website.
