Many more good tunes making their way across the interweb this week. Take a listen to a few that caught my attention.
MP3: Ladytron- Black Cat from Velocifero (June 3rd, Nettwerk)
Electro UK foursome preps their debut for Nettwerk. Pounding synth and drum machine sounds take the forefront over Bulgarian lyrics.
MP3: Subtle- The Crow from ExitingARM (May 13th, Lex)
Self proclaimed genreless, experimental group go for a pop aesthetic with meandering electronica and a hip hop-styled beat.
MP3: The Black Angels- You On The Run from Directions To See A Ghost (May 13th, Light In The Attic)
A new dirge from Austin’s The Black Angels. Psychedelic infused rock that comes off brooding and deliberate.
MP3: Annuals- Sore from Wet Zoo EP (Out now, Canvasback)
Epic, emotive folk rockers are back with an EP to follow up blog smash hit Be He Me. They’ll likely continue to get those comparisons to Animal Collective and Broken Social Scene, but maybe by the time they get set to release their next full-length they will have come into their own nomer.
MP3: The Strugglers- Morningside Heights from The Latest Rights (April 15th, Acuarela)
About 30 minutes down the road, Brice Randall Bickford has his own folk aspirations. More country and roots driven, The Strugglers and Bickford’s striking warble will appeal to fans of Mark Kozelek or Richard Buckner.
And now for this week¹s Smorgasbord Sundae Wafer…
MP3: The M’s- Big Sound from Real Close Ones (June 17th, Polyvinyl)
Perhaps more distorted and lo-fi. Chicago’s faux-British invasion band continues to craft catchy, original melodies. No upcoming shows have been announced in support of the new record, but expect these fellas to pack a local music room soon.
