This just in - Superfangs here with your Wednesday Smörgåsbord…
MP3: Jay Reatard- Always Wanting More from Always Wanting More 7″ (June 17th, Matador)
Power pop, punk rock prodigy preps this track for his third in a series of 7″ singles to be released by Matador this year. The format is perfect for his honed-in hooks.
MP3: The Felice Brothers- Wonderful Life from The Felice Brothers (Out now, Team Love Records)
Feel good Americana from, well, three brothers. These guys know how to tell a good story while they lull you with their heartfelt strumming.
MP3: Crushed Stars- Spies from Gossamer Days (Out now, Simulcra Records)
A bit-too well produced for bedroom pop, but multi-instrumentalist Todd Gaureau maintains that intimacy with this recently released tune. Think calm, mild melancholy in slow-motion.
MP3: Windsor For The Derby- Maladies from How We Lost (May 20th, Secretly Canadian)
Evidently these ambient post rockers spent over a year holed up in Philadelphia crafting their next record. The result on this song is more hopeful than you might think. Then again, I really hate Philadelphia.
MP3: Water Fai- Kaiyon from Girls in the White Dream (April 15th, White Shoe Records)
White Shoe Records will be releasing a strong body of work from Japan-based Water Fai next month. Recorded between 2004-2006, the group offers up atmospheric, guitar-driven instrumentals with the occasional vocal melody.
And now for this week¹s Smorgasbord Sundae Wafer…
MP3: Make Believe- Just Green Enough from Going To The Bone Church (April 29th, Flameshovel)
Chicago’s Make Believe originally formed as the touring off-shoot of experi-indie favs, Joan of Arc. While Joan of Arc has enlisted the talents of at least a dozen musicians, Make Believe has managed to stick with its core foursome (despite a brief exit by Tim Kinsella). As of now, they’ve got the summer set aside to tour as Joan of Arc, but you never know when they might lapse into character.
