Our bags are packed, our lollipops are color coordinated, and we’re off to Austin tomorrow! Don’t forget to put our day party with the fine folks from Ray-Ban, UR Chicago, and the POPPED! Music Festival on your SXSW itinerary.
In the meantime, the new Black Keys record is totally hellacious. All of the desperation and howling carcophony of traditional blues, filtered through the desolation of the Midwest and the fucking ON FIRE riffs of Dan Auerbach. Though Danger Mouse may be best known for redefining mash-ups with 2005’s The Grey Album, he’s also twisted the knobs for The Good, The Bad, and The Queen, The Ravonettes, and Sparklehorse. It’s the first time Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney have ventured into a proper studio, and the results are well worth the exhaustive venture into medium-fi. Pick up Attack & Release on April 1 (Nonesuch).
