We’re packing up the rocknroll choo choo and getting ready to head south to Austin, but that’s no reason not to give you your weekly dose of new aural goodies. Hit it, Superfangs.
MP3: Jim Noir- Don’t You Worry from Jim Noir (April 8th, Barsuk)
Jim Noir evokes a feel good vibe with this break-up song. His experimental pop with electronic undertones will appeal to fans of The Flaming Lips and Air.
MP3: The Jealous Girlfriends- Something In The Water from The Jealous Girlfriends (April 15th, Good Fences)
Overlapping male-female vocals carry a budding pop crescendo. Having recently wrapped up some dates with Kevin Devine, they’ll accompany Nada Surf for several dates in April.
MP3: The Charlatans UK- Oh! Vanity from You Cross My Path (Out now, XFM)
Extremely catchy Britpop from an album that early reviews mark as a return to form. It’s certainly more aligned with our tastes than 2006’s Simpatico. You can grab the entire album for free here.
MP3: Foals- Balloons from Antidotes (April 8th, Sub Pop)
Dance-punk with melodic, math rock leanings from the UK. They aptly name the now defunct Chicago group, Sweep The Leg Johnny, as an influence.
MP3: Experimental Aircraft- Upper East Side from Third Transmission (Out
now, Graveface Records)
These newcomers to Chicago’s Graveface Records dropped a rich shoegaze album last week. Frontwoman Rachel Staggs trades off vocal duties with T.J. O’Leary for a dynamic and haunting effect.
And now for this week’s Smorgasbord Sundae Wafer…
MP3: The Living Blue- Numb from Walk, Talk, Rhythm, Roam (TBD, TBD)
Chicago/Champaign garage rockers are surprisingly seeking a home for their next full length. Recorded with Mike Lust (Tight Phantomz, Lustre King), the boys bring the rawness and sweet licks locals-in-the-know have come to
expect– solid rock n’ roll.
