Superfangs is at it again with another batch of homemade sweets…
MP3: School of Language- Rockist Part 1 from Sea From Shore (February 5th, Thrill Jockey)
Would you like to buy a vowel? David Brewis of Field Music uses laptop wizardry to create sensitive pop glitches.
MP3: Cassettes Won’t Listen- Paper Float from Small-Time Machine (March 11th, Self-released)
Bleep, bleep with piano. Electro-indie craftsman Jason Drake takes a break from covers and remixes to put together an original album.
MP3: Headlights-Cherry Tulips from Some Racing, Some Stopping (February 19th, Polyvinyl)
Don’t be fooled by the 10 second 80s intro. Make sure to brush your teeth after this boy-girl harmonized, easy breezy tune.
MP3: Port O’Brien- I Woke Up Today from All We Could Do Was Sing (May 2008, Self-released)
M Ward-approved choir folk. For those of you already onto this bunch (and this track), this version has been tweaked a bit in preparation for the full-length.
MP3: She and Him- Why Do You Let Me Stay Here from Volume One (March 18th, Merge Records)
Speaking of M Ward… Zooey Deschanel coyly teams up to craft afternoon delight of a different era.
MP3: Birds Of Avalon- Measure Of The Same from Outer Upper Inner (Spring 2008, Volcom Entertainment)
Multiple guitar melodies shine in this rock number. Like their more psychedelic debut, Outer Upper Inner was recorded with R.E.M. cohort Mitch Easter.
MP3: Witch- Eye from Paralyzed (March 18th, Tee Pee)
J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. goes hard rock in this stoner spin-off.
MP3: The Loved Ones- The Bridge from Build & Burn (February 5th, Fat Wreck Chords)
Philly boys bring us a pop punk gem. Melodic without catering to the mall-punk crowd.
MP3: What Made Milwaukee Famous- Resistance St from What Doesn’t Kill Us (March 4th, Barsuk)
Dramatic, sweeping and ultimately not as cheerful as their debut effort. Touring can do funny things to people.
And now for this week’s Smorgasbord Sundae Wafer…
MP3: The Interiors- Power Lines from Fireflies and Lamp Lights (May 2008, 54-40 or Fight)
These college rock meets indie Chicago boys signed this past year to 54-40 or Fight. Their debut album will finally make it to the masses in the spring. “Power Lines,” dubbed their “hit”, reminds us a bit of The National. Check out their website for details on two upcoming gigs at The Note and Martyrs.
