Le Concorde - Lullaby For Dollface [3:23m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download
I was hanging out in the WLUW studios a couple of weeks ago when Stephen Becker, the heart ‘n’ soul of Chicago’s elegant pop outfit Le Concorde, walked through the doors and introduced himself to the folks in the control room. I’ve met Stephen through mutual friends a couple of times and we’ve exchanged emails about LC’s fantastic new EP for the Le Grand Magistry label, Suite. Ken Stringfellow and Ed Tinley (of Ike Reilly) both appear on the album, which was recorded and mixed in part by the great David Gamson (probably best known for his work with Scritti Politti). There’s so much intensity here, from the vocal acrobatics of the Jackson 5 and melodic space exploration of the Bee Gees on “I Want You Back” to the napping-in-a-field-of-poppies dreaminess of “Lullaby For Dollface.” The programming at time recalls the least-indulgent moments of The Postal Service, and as Advance Copy noted, the sweetest bits of Daft Punk.
Get ready to hear your new favorite songs.

I’m really hoping the buzz around Stephen Becker & Co. continues to build in Chicago, as this is a band that treats its music not only as an art, but also as a science. […]
