Yeasayer’s racked up love from such trendies as Said the Gramophone and Gorilla vs. Bear, and after catching them at CMJ…I must agree that this is the kind of band that deserves every bit of “hype” bestowed upon them. It’s cornfield psychedelia a la CSNY or America, four-part harmonies a la Pet Sounds, and seasoned, creative musicianship a la Beirut or the Arcade Fire. Go see them. Go buy All Our Cymbals. Be well.

Kid Sister is Kanye-approved and recently lit up the West Coast on the Fool’s Gold Tour with A-Trak, The Cool Kids, and Nick Catchdubs. ‘Ye even showed up at her video shoot a couple of weeks ago to add a verse to “Pro Nails,” her first single for Fool’s Gold. It’s squarely in the “hip-hop for hipsters” camp, but catchy and refreshing nonetheless. Expect bigger more better shit from this Chicagoan soon.

I know I’ve mentioned Joe Pug in the past, but he’s been putting in some time in Chicago’s dives and is finally coming into his own as a performer as well as songwriter. All I can say is, watch out, Ezra Furman…and, you know, Bruce and Bob.

Honest, powerful pop from Saturday Looks Good To Me um…sounds good to me.
