Paste Magazine has taken Radiohead’s dance moves to heart and is now offering its readership the opportunity to pay what they want for the rag. Being that I work at a beautiful magazine that’s offered completely free to the good people of Chicago, I know there are plenty of ways for a print publication to make money that doesn’t involve subscription revenue…much like Radiohead knows there are ways to sustain a living as a band without commanding a given price for a physical recording. I’m guessing that Paste sees more in the value of PR, as the first publication to adopt this model, than in the few bucks it may lose on each subscription. I, for one, am considering signing up for a year today.
Music is a probably dying industry, print media is arguably a dying industry…anyone see the dawning of a new paradigm, or are these a couple of lost causes?

So - Lizz, did you subscribe? I like Paste…would be worth about $14/year to me. Thanks for pointing this out.
