All Aglow Inside

I first caught Phosphorescent by accident at Schubas last winter. I’d gone to see my good pal Cameron McGill hold court as he does, and arrived a bit early to relax with a cocktail and get the skinny on Cameron’s new record. I ducked into the music room for kicks and saw a grey-haired dude on stage, completely wrapped in Christmas lights and almost cooing the same line, “Aw come, aw wry,” over and over again over and atmospheric bed of synth and acoustic guitar. Seriously, this is the kind of thing that stops you in your tracks and makes your inner artist weep with inferiority…I bought the record on the spot, hung out for Cameron’s set and then went home to totally immerse myself in this ‘Phosphorescent.’

I still know next to nothing about the guy, and in this case I’m cool with it. Once you hear his music, I think you’ll concur that any sort of background would somehow diminish the freaky captivity that the music creates. I don’t even know the his name, and I’m ok with that.
