Steve Albini has made more of my favorite records than probably any other producer, and he’s built a reputation and a career on doing things exactly the way he wants to do them. This has created a bit of a mystique around the man, and he at times is not entirely forthcoming about his
work processes, influences, and oft-controversial methods of making records. Funny that he’d take a whole bunch of time to answer questions on a message board, but we have it on authority from an Electrical employee that this is indeed Albini. Since I had no luck debunking any myths or gaining any insight when my band played with Shellac a couple of months ago, this is of particular interest to me. Some of the forum questions are sort of lame (“Who is the worst band you’ve ever worked with?”), but some are pretty pointed and Albini seems to be answering most of them.
For fans of American indie and post-punk, it’s an interesting way to waste a few minutes at work.
